The Empty Bench Poem
by Levi Sap Nei Thang
On this bench, as we had planned,
I returned to find it empty, starkly bland.
Unlike the other day, when laughter filled the air,
It was devoid of your presence, unraveling despair.
In just a matter of days, it all felt like a dream,
Our unbreakable bond, torn at the seam.
You were nowhere to be found,
Leaving me sitting alone with emotions to mend.
On this bench, we once were inseparable,
Understanding each other makes our souls so capable.
We poured our hearts out without fear or doubt,
A sanctuary of connection, where time stood still, no route.
We shared moments of laughter and of tears,
Unafraid of judgment, casting aside dreaded fears.
The bench became our refuge, where dreams took flight,
A place where possibilities were nurtured, shining bright.
We spoke of the future, of adventures yet to come,
Excitement filled our hearts, ready to overcome.
Together, we faced challenges with unwavering hope,
On this bench, our bond was a sturdy rope.
But now, it seems, all of this has disappeared,
Life’s unraveling path has left us shattered and seared.
Cracks appeared in our once unbreakable tether,
Leaving us with memories, a bond we now weather.
I wish for a different outcome, a mending of the past,
To repair the cracks and find our way back, steadfast.
Yet life has a way of changing the strongest of ties,
Leaving us longing for what once made us feel alive.
As I sit on this empty bench, a sense of loss fills me,
Your absence is a reminder of what used to be.
I’ll cherish the memories we shared in this sacred place,
Hoping that one day, we’ll rediscover love’s embrace.
Until then, I’ll visit this bench, a symbol of what once thrived,
A reminder to never take connections for granted to strive.
For in this life, where uncertainties often unfurl,
We must hold onto hope and let our souls unfurl.
