When Dreams Turn Into Nightmares
Poem by Levi Sap Nei Thang
In the depths of night, a dream did unfold,
A sinister darkness that began to take hold.
Figures approached, ominous and cold,
My heart raced, gripped by fear untold.
Like a prisoner in slumber’s embrace,
I struggled to wake, sought solace and grace.
But my lids, heavy with a nocturnal haze,
Battled against the light’s invigorating rays.
Desperation consumed, my strength did wane,
Yet undeterred, I fought to break my dream’s chain.
With trembling hands and a trembling voice,
I clutched my phone, seeking an anchor, a choice.
Dialing those three numbers, a lifeline in hand,
Connecting to an unseen savior, an angel in command.
The operator’s voice, a lifeline at my ear,
Guiding, comforting, dissolving my fear.
Through the darkness, the police did speed,
An army of hope, poised to intercede.
Beneath moonlit gardens, where shadows played,
They hastened, summoned by this dream betrayed.
Safe haven was sought as the call was made,
A frightened soul alone in that vast homestead.
Their presence neared, like a distant drum’s beat,
As I struggled to awaken from my dream’s deceit.
Then, like a phoenix rising from ash and despair,
I awoke, freed from the clutches of that nefarious lair.
Yet, in my trembling limbs and pounding heart,
The lingering tremors of that nightmare’s art.
Dreams can be demons, they can haunt and deceive,
Yet even in darkness, there’s a flicker to believe.
For in the face of fear, we uncover hidden might,
And emerge from slumber’s abyss into the triumph of light.
