The Moonlit Night
Poem by Levi Sap Nei Thang
It was midnight when I was hungry.
I came downstairs to get some fruit,
Looking outside through the window.
The moonlight shone on my garden,
Streaming in through the windows.
It was a cordial night.
The kind of night,
That made me want to step outside.
Take a walk on the grass,
Just because it was so beautiful out.
The moon lit up the sky.
The stars were shining bright.
I was dazzled by its glow.
I wanted to see it up close,
But I was too scared to go.
I wished I could be as bold.
When the night comes,
The stars shine like jewels in the sky;
They are so beautiful and so far away.
All I see is beauty in this world of ours.
I couldn’t sleep.
I stood alone in the night,
My eyes were wide,
My heart was beating,
As I stared up at the glowing orb.
It was like nothing I had ever seen before.
It was big and round, like a big yellow egg,
I danced around my yard,
The trees swayed back and forth,
As I moved around them.
I could hear the wind whistling,
Seem to be calling my name.
Telling me to come closer,
To come out of this world,
More beautiful than this one could ever be.
Return to my bed,
To write this poem.
I turned and faced the wall,
As I lay awake in my bed.
And watched the hours pass.
I thought about the day,
And all the things we’d done.
We’d walked along amazed,
And talked for hours more,
I thought of all that we’d said.
When I close my eyes and sleep,
I hope I have a dream.
A dream of adventure,
Of mystery and intrigue,
Of things that could never be.
I hope I have a dream.
A dream of flying through the air,
To fly high above the clouds,
To soar like an eagle on wings so proud.
To see what is beyond the horizon.
I hope I have a dream.
Of climbing impossible mountains,
Of swimming in the deepest ocean.
Of breathing underwater.
Of walking on water.
But most of all, a dream of you.
